Description
Letter, addressed to Lord Buckhurst, from Privy Council authorizing conduct money for 30 men levied in the West Division of Northamptonshire. Oddly, the letter is signed by Buckhurst. Other signatories include: Sir Robert Cecil (son of the Burleigh), Sir Thomas Egerton, Edward Somerset (4th of 6th Earl of Worcester), Sir William Knollys, Sir John Fortescue, and others, including the Archbishop of Canterbury, who, at that date, was John Whitgift. All friends and associates of Edmund Spenser.
Enclosed in red leather portfolio with gold embossed lettering. Holograph, signed. Includes transcript (typewritten)--and explanatory letter laid in.
